A few words about the psychologist…

The psychologist, Joanna Karkanevatou, is a licensed psychologist and a graduate of the Department of Psychology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

With respect and dedication, she combines theoretical training with many years of practical experience, offering support grounded in understanding and trust.

She receives regular clinical supervision and is committed to continuous professional and personal development.

The psychologist’s approach

With a background of working across various therapeutic settings and organisations in both Greece and abroad, the psychologist brings a thoughtful and trauma-informed perspective to her practice.

Her work is grounded in a strong ethical commitment to providing inclusive, non-discriminatory support, with a focus on relieving emotional pain and promoting psychological well-being.

She has a flexible person-centered approach, respecting the personal history and truth of each individual.

She is dedicated to creating a safe and compassionate space where individuals feel heard, accepted, and empowered to explore their inner world.

Her therapeutic focus encourages self-awareness and emotional growth, with the aim of fostering resilience, autonomy, and positive change in a way that feels meaningful and sustainable.

The First Sessions
The first three sessions are designed to create a safe and open space where the psychologist and the person seeking support can get to know each other. The initial sessions offer the opportunity to explore the reasons for seeking support, share relevant personal history, and work collaboratively to define a meaningful therapeutic goal.

The number and frequency of ongoing sessions are not fixed but are thoughtfully discussed during the first session. This ensures that the support provided is flexible and tailored to the individual’s unique needs, preferences, and circumstances. The aim is always to create a supportive framework that feels respectful, empowering, and helpful at every step.
Areas of Focus - Some of the themes explored include:
• Anxiety and Stress
• Depression and Low Mood
• Bereavement and Loss
• Trauma
Cost and Duration
The first introductory session is offered free of charge, providing the necessary space for both the psychologist and the person seeking support to connect, explore initial concerns, and assess individual needs without pressure or obligation.

Each session thereafter has a duration of 45 minutes.

Fees for ongoing sessions can be discussed directly with the psychologist, with the aim of finding an arrangement that is fair and considerate of individual circumstances.
